Change of the price
The package travel operator has a right to change the price for the travel until 20 days before departure. However, this applies only if the operator wrote about it in the terms of the travel. If it does not say anything in the terms, the price may not be changed.
The price may only be raised due to changes in exchange rates, taxes, fees or fuel costs for transports included in the travel.
If the price is raised by more than 8 per cent of the travel’s total price, you have the right to cancel the travel and receive a full refund.
Change in the content of the travel
Sometimes, a package travel operator changes the actual content of the travel. This may, for example, concern cancelled or changed excursions at the destination that you booked at the same time you bought the travel or a changed travel route. If the changes in the package travel mean that the trip becomes worse, you can demand a price reduction. The size of the price reduction shall in many cases correspond to the part of the package travel that will not take place.
If the changes are of very large significance and entail a major disadvantage for you, you may be entitled to cancel the trip and demand a full refund.
Change of the time or date for the travel
If the actual time for the departure has changed significantly and constitutes a major disadvantage for you, you may be entitled to refrain from the trip and demand a full refund.
If you still want to go, but the package travel, for example, is one day shorter because the departure takes place one day later, you should be able to demand a price reduction from the operator that corresponds to the day missed.
Right to claim damages
If you can prove with receipts or the like that you had extra costs due to the change in the package travel you may be entitled to claim damages from the package travel operator for those extra costs.
You cannot claim damages if the change in the package travel was because of you or if the error was due to unavoidable and extraordinary circumstances that the operator could not have foreseen. Examples of extraordinary events can be natural disasters, disease outbreaks or war.
Complain to the package travel operator
If you want to file complaint about a change in the package travel, it is important that you do so as soon as possible to the operator. It is good if you file complaint in writing, such as over email. In this way, you can also prove afterwards that you complained and when you complained.
